TIME FOR THE NBA TO EXPLORE A SHORTER SEASON AND KICKING THE IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT TO THE CURB

I’m going to make this quick and to the point.

It’s time for the NBA to shorten its season to 62 games. I get that MLB plays 162, but let’s be real—baseball players spend most of the game standing around. NBA players? They’re running suicides for 48 minutes and jumping like damn kangaroos, landing on hardwood over and over.

Since we’re talking about reducing the load and managing for the playoffs—which now stretch from April to June—here are a few other ideas:

  • Get rid of the pointless in-season NBA Cup. This isn’t Europe.

  • Scrap the play-in tournament. Stop watering down an already watered-down product.

  • Bring back the best-of-5 format for the opening round. Faster, better, more exciting.

Look, I get it—TV contracts and money run the show. But it’s time to save these guys’ knees and legs and put the season on a much-needed diet.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling Adam Silver is going to find a way to add to the players’ workload instead, further risking injury and making the regular season feel even more meaningless night after night.
