TIME FOR THE BROWNS TO GET A YOUNG OFFENSIVE COACH AND FIND OUT IF SANDERS IS THE GUY
They rarely win pretty; in fact, it’s usually ugly, but can we stop pretending the Bears are not a good football team? They have possibly the best offensive mind in football in Ben Johnson as their coach, and he’s a big reason the Bears are ascending, while his former team, where he was a coordinator, the Lions, is on the decline. Windows close quickly in the NFL unless you’re the Patriots with Tom Brady or the Chiefs with Mahomes, and even those windows eventually slam shut.
The thing about the NFL is that a team can make a quick jump from worst to first with the right draft and the right coach. If you’re the Browns, are you seeing this? Stefanski brings zero creativity to this team and believe it or not, if Shedeur Sanders can live up to his pre-draft expectations and hype, so the Browns focus on drafting a top wide receiver and bolstering the offensive line then and hit some home runs in the middle rounds like they did in the 2025 draft, the Browns could have a very good looking roster on paper for a new head coach to have some fun with.
But for the Browns to do that, Sanders has to show he’s actually worthy of another year and that he can be the guy. This week against the 49ers could be very telling. They still rank near the top of the league in most categories against the pass, even if they’ve shown some vulnerabilities the last few weeks. If Sanders can move the ball, make good reads, and not look overwhelmed against that defense, you at least have a starting point to justify building around him.
The truth is, we know Dillon Gabriel is not an NFL starter. He doesn’t have the physical attributes. He seems like a likable guy, and I’m sure from the shoulders up he gets the game and processes everything quickly, but most fans like myself were able to see from his first preseason action that he was never going to be “the guy.” With next year’s NFL quarterback draft class not looking as strong as everyone thought it would be heading into the season, this is the perfect time to move forward and see if Sanders can be the guy, and use the draft to fix some glaring holes on your roster, and this time not using free agency like it’s Flex Seal and patching your roster knowing at some point it’s not going to hold up.
So do they take the lead from the Bears and go get a top-flight, young, offensive-minded coach, or do they continue to roll with Stefanski and his zero creativity, and waste another year of Myles Garrett’s prime? The time is now for the Browns to move forward and find that next brash, young coach.
