THIS ISN'T HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS

One of the biggest complaints Americans have about Congress is that nothing gets done. Republicans blame Democrats. Democrats blame Republicans as division has become the norm.

So when Congress actually comes together and passes a bipartisan bill, especially one aimed at addressing the housing crisis, you'd think that would be something worth celebrating.

Instead, Donald Trump has refused to sign it until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, a separate and highly controversial elections bill which can be described as a form of voter suppression.

Think about that for a second.

The housing bill and the SAVE Act are two completely different issues.

This isn't negotiating. This is taking your ball and going home until everyone agrees to play by your rules.

People love to mock the "No Kings" protests. They act like it's some dramatic slogan with no real meaning and those who attend are Libitards, but this is exactly the kind of behavior those protesters are talking about.

The President is not a king.

Congress isn't supposed to exist to carry out one man's personal wish list. Members of the House and Senate don't work for Donald Trump. They work for the American people and their job is to represent the people who elected them and not to prove loyalty to an 80-year-old demented orange man whose sole purpose of sitting in the oval office is to inflate his and his billionaire friends net worth.

Likewise, the President is supposed to work for the American people, just not his MAGA his cult base.

If Congress sends a bipartisan bill to your desk, evaluate that bill on its own merits. If you support it, sign it. If you don't, veto it and explain why.

What you shouldn't do is hold unrelated legislation hostage until Congress gives you something else you want.

That's not how representative government works.

Our system was intentionally designed with separate branches of government because the Founders didn't want one person dictating his own agenda. Congress writes the laws. The President signs or vetoes them, and neither branch is supposed to be subordinate to the other.

Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, that principle shouldn't change depending on whose name is on the ballot.

We don't elect kings.

We elect public servants, and public servants are supposed to serve the people and not a president who can’t even stay awake in a loud arena at an NBA Finals game.
